Dr. Cabler is now using the FDA approved IntraLase-FSŪ laser to create BLADE-FREE LASIK flaps when performing LASIK surgery. Traditionally, the LASIK flap was created using a microkeratome with a blade. Although complications during LASIK are relatively rare, when they do occur the microkeratome portion of the procedure is often the source of the problem. This new BLADE-FREE LASIK procedure is more PRECISE and SAFER than ever before.
Our patients now have a choice between Wavefront-Guided Custom LASIK and Wavefront-Optimized LASIK surgery. Dr. Cabler will perform the appropriate tests to determine which procedure is best suited for each individual LASIK patient.
The IntraLase-FSŪ technology is distinguished by the speed of the laser pulse in the femtosecond (one quadrillionth of a second) range. It is used only to create the flap for LASIK. We then use an excimer Laser to perform the rest of the LASIK procedure as before. A clinical study has shown that over 95% of patients who have had BLADE-FREE LASIK achieved 20/20 or better vision.
How IntraLASIK works Dr. Cabler uses IntraLase-FSŪ computer software to guide the IntraLase-FSŪ laser beam, which passes into the cornea and pulses a pattern of tiny (microscopic) overlapping spots. This customized laser pattern results in a precise cut of the cornea at a depth predetermined by Dr. Cabler. As with the microkeratome, a small section of tissue at one edge of the corneal flap is left uncut, forming a hinge that allows the surgeon to fold back the corneal flap after reshaping the corneal bed with the excimer laser as in traditional LASIK.
The biggest benefit to our patients has been the increased SAFETY and PRECISION from this ALL-LASER procedure. This laser has an excellent safety profile with computer-controlled precision producing uniform flap architecture with outstanding results. Combined with Wavefront technology the IntraLase-FSŪ laser sets a new standard in LASIK surgery.
